ALBERT BEACH works in his printmaking/painting studio in the Silver Lake District of Los Angeles. He teaches printmaking and figure drawing at Mount St. Mary’s College in Brentwood. During the months of May through October he lives and works in Benabbio, Bagni di Lucca, Italy where he also maintains a printmaking/painting studio.
Since the early 1960s Albert has worked as an art student and artist. Over the years he has studied with many talented artists and earned a bachelors and masters degree in art (MFA University of Colorado). He has had one person exhibits at Jersey City State College, N.J., Beverly Hills Library, Beverly Hills, California and at Mount St. Mary’s College, Brentwood. He has participated in many two-person and group shows throughout his career.
In the realm of commercial work he has produced extensive editions and suites of prints for the Four Seasons Hotel, Beverly Hills, The Balboa Bay Club, Newport Beach, and The Mission Inn, Riverside, California (see montypes).
His paintings are informed by the patterning and overlapping which come naturally to a printmaker, and the prints are likewise influenced by a painterly quality. Albert works in acrylic, oil and watercolor. In the print studio he uses traditional intaglio techniques to produce multiple plate color etchings. He also produces large groups of monotypes, which are often the inspiration for the etchings. The imagery, by and large, is of urban and suburban architecture from Los Angeles and Europe. Of late he has begun a series of images dealing with fanciful interiors.
